College friends target cell phone market with Fun Friends

Sarasota, FL — Sure, you have fun friends, but do you really have “Fun Friends”?

In 1998, while on a fishing trip in Cape Town, South Africa, Julian Parry noticed the captain had a lobster plush toy fit around his cell phone. Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in his head.

Realizing that all cell phones could use a little dressing up, Parry created Fun Friends — the original plush toy cell phone covers.

Three years into pushing the fun and furry phone covers, Parry enlisted two friends from school, Charles Larson and Tim Mihm, and the terrific trio began traveling extensively to China and different trade shows.

Now, Fun Friends has experienced growth of more than 300 percent since 2003 and expect 2009 sales of $1.6 million. With over 100 styles and endless ideas for more, the cute and cuddly accessories are made to fit on bar or flip-style phones. Fun Friends are also made to jazz up staplers, remote controls, iPods and other items and also feature matching keychains and magnets. Fun Friends can be ordered individually or in bulk, online or by phone.
